Fans Turn Out in Droves for People’s Choice Vote, Round 4 Begins

Music fans in Syracuse are proving to any potential naysayers in concrete numbers that their local music scene is an intense passion, as evidenced by an unexpectedly large and record- breaking People’s Choice total vote count for this year’s Syracuse New Times Syracuse Area Music Awards People’s Choice Vote.

The vote moves into its fourth round on Sept. 2, leaving just the top 32 bands and venues to hear live music in contention. Roughly 3,200 individual Syracusans and nationwide fans have turned in their selections for the top bands and venues in the Syracuse area, resulting in about 7,600 total votes.

The People’s Choice contest allows fans, bands and venues to vote on their favorite band and venue once per day through Oct. 6, 2010. Each week, the top bands and venues by votes are cut in half, resulting in contest winners at that time.

This week, there were no ties for last place, resulting in the top 32 bands and venues still in contention.

Winners will be announced during the 2010 Syracuse New Times Syracuse Area Music Awards Show, which this year will be held at the MIC: Meet Interact Connect music conference on Friday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Onondaga County Convention Center (Oncenter), 800 S. State St. The Sammys will start at 7:30 on Friday, Oct. 8.

We’re happy to divulge this fun statistic: roughly 71% of those who have voted on this year’s contest have reported themselves as fans of the Syracuse music scene, an outstanding number that shows just how much music fans themselves care.

On behalf of those bands who have been nominated for this year’s People’s Choice vote, we would like to thank all those fans who give their hearts and souls (and clicks!) to show their support for Syracuse musicians. It is genuinely touching and even overwhelming to see such an intense response to our web-based vote this year.

Keep voting, and keep listening to those bands that make our great city the hip, musical haven that it is!

As an update to those who have voted for their favorite bands and venues so far, here are the contestants remaining in the fourth round of the People’s Choice vote.
